Enhancement of Contrast in Detection of Small Defects in Pipes Using Guided Waves
2016
Aleksejs Tatarinovs, E. Davydov, Jevgenijs Barkanovs

The reduced-scale model study has demonstrated improved detection of small defects in tube by LRUT using guided waves. Echo signals were collected from 4 magnetostrictive transducers positioned in steps along the tube. The processing included time-shifting and multiplication of signals in the region-of-analysis thus to exaggerate helpful responses related to the torsional wave and suppress parasite acoustic modes. As the result, considerable enhancement of contrast was achived.
