Vector-Based Approach to Skeleton Extraction from the Human Hand’s 3D Model
Proceedings of the 13th International Conference on Applied Computing 2016 2016
Aleksandrs Sisojevs, Katrina Boločko

A skeleton is a simple representation of the 2D or 3D object that consists of small curves and preserves the topological and geometrical data of the model. Skeletons extraction is an actual topic and the skeleton structures are used in various fields, like computer graphics and visualization, computer animation, computer vision, medical imaging, mechanical design, shape matching and pattern recognition. The goal of this research is to present an algorithm capable of extracting the skeleton from the 3D model of a human hand in order to use the extracted skeleton to automatically design and fit the prosthesis.
