State-of-the-art approach to planetary gearboxes condition monitoring consider Time Signal Averaging (TSA) techniques as the basic algorithm for vibration diagnostics of planetary gearboxes. However, expansion of above techniques meets limitations for aviation gearboxes because of high requirements to phase resolution and long-time data accumulation. To overcome these limitations authors briefly consider spatial impulse mesh model described earlier for planetary gears modelling. An experimental test rig for planetary gearbox research and measurement setup is presented. Data development routines and results of experimental research study are considered. Diagnostic abilities of advanced STDD technique for detection of teeth damages in planetary gears are proved experimentally. Conclusions are made about effectiveness of STDD based diagnostic technique under limited time data and availability for monitoring and diagnostics application in real time.
