The assessment of the value of human life is necessary for the provision of state policy in the field of compensations, for families where, in case of an accident a member of the family died. In addition, this value is necessary to develop consistent safety measures for inhabitants, to ensure the functioning of the life insurance and health system. The assessment of the value of human life shows what amount of money the state is ready to invest in raising safetu, reducing risk factors and minimising the threats of technogenic environment. Currently there is no methodology for the assessment of the value of human life in Latvia. The research was carried out in order to identify the average cost of human life in Latvia in case of an accident related to the untimely lethal outcome for a human, as well as the costs of treating a victim in a hospital. This problem is topical in each country, since average life values and treatment costs are different for each country. The methods for measuring the average value of human life are very different, so authors will compare the calculated values of life and treatment.
