This paper gives an overview of cooling systems applied for electric traction motors in electric vehicles. Particular focus is dedicated to the thermal field calculation of the synchronous reluctance motor used in electric trolleybus. The thermal finite element model was created to evaluate electric motor cooling systems. Experimental results validate the thermal finite element model for the synchronous reluctance machine with forced air cooling.
