Higher Education Students’ Motivations to Choose Bilingual Courses in Tourism Management

Course selection is the starting point for university students' learning, which is related to students' future ability development. A clear motivation for course selection helps students to form accurate expectations, and to optimize the process of course selection. This research has been carried out in universities in China, examining tourism management major bachelor students’ motivations to choose bilingual courses in tourism management. With an effective sample of 68 in-depth interviews from 19 universities in 6 provinces of China, this research employs bachelor students who are studying tourism management major and taking tourism management-related bilingual courses (in Chinese and English). This research reveals students’ motivations for selecting bilingual courses. Therefore, suggestions and implications are provided for the course and teaching revolution of the bilingual courses in the tourism management domain.
