This chapter explores the role of cybersecurity in the digital era, focusing specifically on Latvia’s landscape. It provides an in-depth analysis of the current cybersecurity challenges and the measures being implemented to counteract prevalent cyber threats. Additionally, this chapter explores Latvia’s legal and institutional frameworks, emphasizing the importance of legislative actions like the EU Cybersecurity Act and the National Cybersecurity Law of Latvia, as well as the establishment of institutions such as the National Cybersecurity Centre. The research further investigates the trends toward centralization in cybersecurity, evaluating both the benefits and associated risks to better understand its applicability. To provide practical insights, this chapter presents five case studies of major Latvian organizations, shedding light on their distinctive cybersecurity practices, challenges, and trends. By situating these case studies within the broader context of global cybersecurity events and trends, this chapter offers valuable perspectives on both the global and local cybersecurity landscapes.
