Social network have recently gained a significant popularity increase and according to the Nielsen Online report are even more popular than email. The goal of this paper is to provide an analysis of the existing Semantic Web technologies for social networks, to show how they can improve existing social networks and to outline their problems. Such themes as Semantic Web ontologies, FOAF (Friend of a friend) and SIOC (Semantically-Interlinked Online Communities) vocabularies, social network data portability are covered in depth.
