Calcium phosphate (CaP) bone cements are widely used as synthetic bone graft substitutes in non-load bearing sites due to their bioactivity, biocompatibility and hardening in situ. There still are potential of improvements on tricalcium phosphate (TCP) based bone cements. The phase composition and morphology, cohesion, setting time, mechanical properties and good in vitro cell viability of TCP bone cements are very important for clinical application. The aim of this work is to prepare the TCP bone cements using simple methods and raw materials. Properties of four different solid phase compositions (β-TCP, α-/β-TCP, α-TCP) were investigated.
