Asphalt pavement longitudinal deformations (rutting) is the most significant type of the carriageway defects. This problem is urgent not only in Latvia, but also worldwide. Such road damages considerably reduce service life and carrying capacity of asphalt pavement, the traffic safety and comfort level, increase the asphalt pavement operational and maintenance costs, limit velocity of transportation and axle load. As asphalt pavement layer is the most expensive road building material, prediction of permanent deformations is of large importance. It allows planning the road infrastructure repair works timely and cost efficiently. The aim of the promotion paper is to develop asphalt pavement compositions by using conventional and unconventional raw materials and to determine the dynamics of their deformations by using for this purpose the developed prediction methods of road pavement permanent deformations on the basis of the comprehensive analysis of external factors. Properties of conventional and unconventional asphalt concrete compositions have been developed and mutually compared in the promotion paper. The ESAL estimation equation for operating the road pavement during the highest temperature period has been developed in the promotion paper. A method of predicting permanent deformations has been offered based on the estimation model of VESYS viscose-resilient systems, with the ESAL values specified for the hot (spring-summer) period. The dynamics of permanent deformation development for conventional and unconventional asphalt concrete compositions have been determined. The concept of the asphalt pavement quality provision system has been elaborated for the intensively loaded Latvian streets and roads, thus providing an opportunity for performing the systematic evaluation. The author of the paper has participated in the “Research on Application of New Technologies” research programme organised by the State Joint Stock Company “Latvian State Roads”. The obtained results have been used to improve requirements of the Latvian road building technical regulations “Road Specifications 2010”. Within the framework of the TOP project “The Concept of Riga Streets, Transport Structures and Traffic Management Development for 2008 – 2018”, the author of the paper has developed a concept of the quality provision system for the heavily loaded Riga crossings and transport stops.
