Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) currently used for precise positioning all over the world. In connection with an economical performances in East European countries the GNSS based positioning has been implemented in cadastre, land surveying, cartographic and geodetic applications in various ways. It has became a main tool for precise and fast point positioning with an aid of recently developed ground based augmentation systems and wide application of Real Time Kinematics (RTK) survey methods. Research activities at the Institute of Geodesy and Geoinformation are shortly described in this article. The analysis of the 2.5 year GNSS observation time series has been completed recently and results are reported now. Additionally shortly described the steps to attempt improvement the National geoid model, the participation in the new project of photonics mentioned. This project is developed by 3 institutes of the University of Latvia.
